Artist of the Month: August
Artist Bio: Diana Penn
The COVID lockdown opened a whole new world to me. It was then that a friend introduced me to the world of art. She delivered a canvas, set of acrylic paints, brushes and a bottle of wine and hosted a zoom party of a painting tutorial. I never dreamed that I could actually put something on canvas that I would be happy to look at and certainly never expected at retirement age to find a whole new passion. I was hooked. Then very recently, I took a workshop in pastels. Since then, I have enjoyed many hours with my new love.
Trying to put on canvas what I appreciated as Gods artistry, I found a totally new dimension of appreciation. Appreciation for the beauty that inspires a painting, appreciation for the delight, peace and total engrossment of the act of painting and then the satisfaction of seeing what I was able to accomplish. I actually never tire of studying my paintings. I surround myself with them throughout my home and contemplate them. At first always with a critical eye. Looking at what I couldn’t capture, how amateurish the overall effect is. But then slowly, after studying my painting long enough, the beauty of the subject that inspired the painting, the awe, the
emotional connection, the spiritual response begins to show itself to me in my own art
The beauty of creation is the ultimate ART and my paintings are just my humble attempt to capture it for myself.
My wish for you is that you can find something in my art that fills your soul with delight.
